Any time a person is on his/her feet, that person has to use his/her ankles. Weak ankles can make walking or even just standing very uncomfortable. This discomfort can be eliminated by having strong ankle muscles and tendons. It does not take long painful exercises session to develop strong ankles, but some exercises will have to be performed. With a few minutes a few times a week a person can develop strong ankles.
First Ankle Strengthening Exercise
The first exercise is to write the alphabet with the toes. This will allow the ankle to be worked in all directions and with all muscles on the front of the foot and lower leg. The exercise should be performed every other day and the person doing the exercise should go through the entire alphabet. This will give 24 reps for all the muscles. To increase resistance a person can put a light weight across the toes while performing the exercise.
Second Ankle Strengthening Exercise
The second exercise will strengthen the calf muscles. This is performed by standing on one foot while holding onto an object for balance. While standing on the one foot, the person will raise up the heel so that he/she are standing on his/her toes. The person will hold this for 2-3 seconds and then relax down. Perform as many reps as possible up to 20 every other day. To increase resistance hold a weight in one hand while using the other hand to balance.
These two exercises will exercise all the main ankle stabilizer muscles with out over doing it and injuring the muscle. With the ankles more stable the person will have less discomfort and improved activity.
