Dressing up as a group for Halloween is fun for any age. Sometimes it can be difficult to come up with an original idea and then to coordinate it with every member of your group. Here is a list of simple, easy to make costume ideas for any size of group. These ideas are appropriate for any age group from teens to adults. All of these costumes can be worn anywhere because they are so simple and functional.
Where’s Waldo? This group costume is probably the easiest but oh so funny! Every person but one just wears normal clothes. One designated person dresses as Waldo from the “Where’s Waldo?” books. They will need a red and white striped shirt, blue jeans, and a red winter hat. Waldo’s accessories include black round glasses (like Harry Potter) and sometimes a tall walking stick. This is especially funny in a group photo because the idea behind the “Where’s Waldo? ” books is to find the Waldo character on the page with lots of other people all around him.
Stranded: Everyone dresses as if they have been stranded on a tropical island. To achieve this look, rip some old beach clothes like Capri pants and a Hawaiian shirt. Girls can wear a swimsuit underneath that would show though the tears. Guys could use brown face paint and a sponge to create an unshaven look. Spread craft glue on the edges of your pants or in patches and glue on real sand. Humorous props to carry include a cell phone (with no reception!) and a volleyball with a red hand print on it named Wilson!
College Students: Everyone can wear wrinkled clothes, flip flops, and maybe a dread lock style wig. Carry a Frisbee and hackie sack with you for extra believability. If it’s chilly outside, pull on a college sweatshirt, but still wear the flip flops!
Rainbow: Each person should wear a solid color from head to toe. You should have at least six members in your group to make red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. If you have more people to incorporate, simply add more colors or someone can be a cloud. To create a cloud costume, carefully hot glue large cotton balls to a white sweatshirt.
Bridal Party: First decide who will be the bride or groom. Everyone else will be the bridesmaids or groomsmen. Keep in mind your group does not need to include men and women, just a bride and her bridesmaids would be funny. Little kids or the shortest group members can be flower girls and ring bearers. For dresses and tuxes, pull out old prom dresses or check the wracks at a local thrift store. This one works especially well if all the bridesmaids dresses are at least the same color. Make matching cumber buns from inexpensive strips of fabric.
Beauty Pageant: Here is another excuse to get out your old prom or bridesmaid dresses! Everyone should get all dressed up – fancy hair and all – and line up for a beauty pageant. Make white sashes that say Miss Kansas, Miss California, etc. Practice your fancy wave: “elbow, elbow, wrist wrist…”
Old Navy Mannequins: This one is so simple, yet everyone will have seen an Old Navy commercial and will “get it”. Each member of the group needs to wear Old Navy clothes. Choose a pose and freeze!
Whether your group is large or small, young or old, at school or work, many or few – these simple group costume ideas can work for your Halloween!
