Thanksgiving is coming fast, and what is a scrumptious dinner without gravy? To me, the best part of the meal is the gravy. It gives your food such a delightful taste, which your palette will enjoy.
Most of us look for a homemade gravy that is quick, easy, and yet enjoyable. When preparing you don’t want those nasty lumps in it, it’s not a nice feeling. Another thing you don’t want is burnt gravy, it should be a nice brown thick consistency. One of the main ingredients for your gravy is the salt, but you need to be careful, because sometimes the drippings from the turkey are salty enough.
Make sure after each time you apply the salt and pepper do a taste taste. This way the taste won’t be overpowering to your taste buds.
There are so many options. You can make the gravy the day of or day before Thanksgiving. Trust me nobody will know the difference. To make the gravy the day before follow this scrumptious recipe Make Ahead Turkey gravy. This sounds so good, I might have to give it a shot.
My Traditional Turkey Gravy Recipe
We all have our own ways of making gravy. Here’s what I use.
1 1/2 cups of turkey drippings, if it’s more no big deal. Use the ratio below for an idea.
3/4 cup milk
A tablespoon of fat to one tablespoon of flour. So if your making 4 cups of gravy, use 4 cups of flour and drippings/fat.
Making The Turkey Gravy
Very simple, place the fat drippings into a pan. Make sure the heat is low. Pour the milk, flour and seasoning into the pan. Simmer this until it’s thick and creamy. Remove from heat and add your salt and pepper. Now remember to use a whisk, so you won’t have any lumps.
