As a woman, I have to say that many of us are hard to please, especially if you want find the perfect eco-friendly gift. But if you believe in living and giving green, there are a number of really great gifts that you can get that will make you a welcome giver, and will make the recipient a happy receiver.
Eco-friendly Gifts for Kids
One of my favorite gifts for little girls is a planting kit. You can make one up yourself, or buy one pre-made. All you need is a few pretty pots, soil, seeds, and a small watering can or atomizer. Make sure you include instructions or a little gardening book – made from recycled paper and soy-based ink.
Another gift for girls a little older is a knitting kit. I started knitting when I was 6 or 7. All you need are large bamboo needles – size 9 or 10 – and some cotton or wool yarn. I would recommend wool over cotton for a beginner only because the yarn will slip easily. Cotton yarn will not slide as well. Provide enough skeins of yarn so that the child can make something useful like a scarf or a little blanket for her dollies.
Tweens and Teens would enjoy Eco-stationery made from 100% recycled paper. There are many different styles to choose – papers, cards, envelopes, notebooks and journals. You can add a set of eco-friendly colored pens, and you’ll delight parents and kids alike.
Eco-friendly Gifts for Adults
A great sustainable gift for a woman would be a set of lovely bamboo cutting boards. I have a couple of them, and they are much more durable than the old wooden cutting boards I used to own. Knives don’t seem to ruin the finished look of the board, and the board doesn’t seem to dull knives as quickly. Thinking green? This would be an excellent choice.
Many women have IPhones today, and a great accessory would be a bamboo IPhone case. Protect a woman’s favorite possession, and you will make her friends green with envy.
There are a number of very stylish eco-friendly tote bags available for green gifts. Whether you choose jute, organic cotton, or bamboo, you’ll be able to give green.
A bamboo flash drive would make a great gift for anyone who uses a computer. You can give them a blank one, or download some Christmas music and load it on the drive for them.
People who are family-minded would live the gift a picture frames. You can get some nice ones at thrift shops and second-hand stores, or purchase a new bamboo frame. Either way, you’ll have something nice to give so the receiver can showcase her favorite photos.
Now that winter is setting in, even the warmer areas of the country are cooling down. It’s the perfect time to give the gift of warmth. And what could be better than a cozy quilt. Antique stores and second hand shops are perfect places to pick up that one-of-a-kind hand-made quilt or comforter.
And don’t overlook the possibility of re-gifting. Often something you receive might night be right for you, but it might be the perfect recycled present for a friend or loved one.
Pick up a few of these eco-friendly presents for the women in you life, and help everyone have a green Christmas this year.
