H. Walker, who’s leads True Light Pentecostal Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, headed a rally in Atlanta to urge Bishop Eddie Long to resign from his position within New Birth Church after four young men accused him of sexually abusing them. the men came forward claiming the Atlanta bishop gave them extravagant gifts, cars, and trips around the worlds as a way of coercing them to be intimate with him.
Words by Protesters Calling for Bishop Eddie Long’s Resignation
“You think we are going to roll over? You think we’re not going to fight back … Hell no,” H. Walker said at the rally.
Others had plenty to say not just about Eddie Long, but homosexuality as a whole.
“Homosexual practice is always wrong,” Peter Laberbera, President of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality said. “It doesn’t matter if you practice it in public, in San Francisco, or in secretly as a church leader, Mr. long.”
“I would equate Bishop Long to Jim Jones,” Texas talk show host, Reuben Armstrong said at the rally. “I would not be surprised if his followers didn’t drink the Kool-Aid this morning.”
Reuben Armstrong took an instrumental position in the Eddie Long rally as well. He had information of allegations regarding Bishop Long in 2006 from two youth pastors of New Birth long before the scandal surfaced at the end of September. He wrote the 2007 bestselling book, “Snakes in the Pulpit.” Armstrong believes in being a voice for those who don’t have one or fear those with political power such as Eddie Long.
Final Thoughts on Eddie Long by Protesters
Peter Laberbera added a final quote in the rally that had quite an impact in its meaning
“I’m going to end today, Bishop Long, if it don’t fit, you must quit!”
The Atlanta rally led by H. Walker sent a big message and protesters hope Bishop Eddie Long heard them loud and clear. Will Eddie Long have a reaction to the protest in the midst of his scandal? This may be another incident in the headlines that Bishop Long will continue to ignore, but it had to be fairly difficult even for him.
