Each guests-to-be for your Halloween party will be freaking out when they see they’ve gotten a small, inexpensive box in the mail and they open it to find an invitation that looks like a coffin – complete with skeleton – or a dead finger invitation! It’ll be the strangest invitation they’ve ever gotten; they’ll remember it forever!
The boxed invitations are unique, that’s for sure, and they don’t cost much too mail. They can be placed in a manila envelope and mailed for a stamp or two – depending upon the design you choose. To make the craft easier for you look around at a dollar-theme store or craft store to find small boxes with detachable lids. The watches are often used to give someone a gift of jewelry or a watch. These little boxes are ideal for creating the eerie Halloween party invitations.
To make a coffin the ideal box is a black one. Write “RIP” on the box lid or make a different design. On the inside, place a layer of cotton on which the skeleton will lie. Buy small, novelty skeletons and place one in each box. Or, make a tiny skeleton by simply shaping white pipe cleaners. Bend one into a “v” shape then turn it upside-down to make the legs. Bend the very ends to make feet.
Cut a second piece of the pipe cleaner to use for the body. Bend the very end of it between the “legs”, over the point in the “v”. At the opposite end, a short ways from the very end, glue a small, straight piece of white pipe cleaner so that it goes across the backside of the body pipe cleaner. This will make the arms for the skeleton. Make tiny elbows by bending each arm to the angle you want.
Glue a small wooden bead to the very end of the pipe cleaner body to make the head. Or, twist a pipe cleaner around and around to make a circle you can attach for the head. Enclose a tiny card that says “We’re dying to have you for dinner” or another phrase.
Instead of a skeleton you can make a dead finger invitation. Cut the fingers off of a medical glove and use them for the dead fingers. Fill each one with cotton or other stuffing then tape the ends shut. Glue a little bit of cotton around the taped end.
Place a layer of cotton in the bottom of the box. On top of the cotton, lay a small note that invites the person to the party. Lay the dead finger on top of the cotton and the note. Glue fake fingernails on or use double-sided tape to attach them. Paint them black or even green. Make “blood” on the finger by using red nail polish, marker or even paint.
The unique invitations will always be remembered and that’s just one aspect of your fabulous party! This year’s Halloween get-together will be the best one ever!
