Egg recall brands are increasing by the day. The egg recall brands list was limited to Wright County Eggs, but the new egg recall brands now include products from Hillandale Farms. The recent salmonella outbreak triggered the biggest call back of eggs in many years, and now the bar is being set higher. While Wright County Eggs had their tainted products go out in May, Hillandale’s reportedly went out a month early. Now that the egg recall brands list has increased, consumers have even more to watch out for.
This week, shoppers already had to memorize the egg recall list from Wright County. Now the egg recall brands from Hillandale Farms have joined the collection, although it is a less extensive list than the Wright County one.
According to EMax Health, the bad eggs have the brands Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, Sunny Meadow, Wholesome Farms and West Creek. The egg recall numbers include the plant number P1860, with Julian dates from 099 to 230, and the plant number P1663, with dates from 137 to 230.
The new egg recall brands come from the same area as the old one. Both Wright County Eggs and Hillandale Farms are in Iowa, as Hillandale is located in New Hampton. Hillandale recalled 170 million eggs, to go along with the 380 million called back by Wright County.
With the egg recall brands now combining to have over half a billion tainted eggs, the situation is now even more of a crisis. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Hillandale stated that outlets in 14 states received these brands, including California and Texas.
Thus far, there’s no report on how many salmonella cases these egg recall brands have caused. Wright County Eggs was linked to over 1,000 salmonella infections earlier this week, and there are sure to be thousands more unreported.
There have been food recalls going on all year, but it is more evident that this one is unique, and more dangerous. This was already the longest egg recall brands list in years, even before Hillandale revealed its troubles. Their tainted products went out in April, a month before Wright County’s did, so this problem has gone undetected for at least an extra month before now.
Hundreds of millions of eggs from Iowa have been declared unsafe already. Now the FDA has to keep their fingers crossed that another Iowa company didn’t make the same mistake. They already have more than enough to handle from the current egg recall brands list, without it expanding any further.
