Home school means conducting all of your child’s educational needs at home or a different setting other then the traditional school setting. A parent usually does this. There are many advantages that home schooled children have when going through their home school year.
As much of the subjects as they want
Being away from a traditional classroom setting means the child can learn as much about a certain subject that they desire. If your child enjoys science or mathematics then nothing stops you from devoting an entire day to that subject. This makes learn fun and individualized for the student. This plays off their strengths and gives the ‘teachers’ the chance to focus on their weaknesses without a time limit.
Learn things for the sake of learning
In many schools, you learn things just to pass a test. However, in the home school environment many students learn things they want to learn just to learn them. Many children many not feel comfortable leading a teacher off a chosen path of discussion, but home schooled children can ask any questions they want to learn the answers to.
Learn what you like without pressure
Children are all unique; therefore sometimes don’t like what their peers like. However, the presence of peer pressure many make your child feel as if they don’t fit in if they do not enjoy the same things their classmates do. Being unique is hard to do in a classroom that is full of other students. Even if parents try to teach their children that they can be who they want to be, sometimes peer pressure can get the best of kids.
Learn at your own pace
Classrooms today are very crowded and it can be hard for teachers to focus on helping each individual student with what they need. Home schooling allows the student to learn at their own pace with the teacher needing to mind to many different students at different levels.
Eat lunch without stress
In a tradition school, a student must eat lunch when they are told they have it is time. They must then wait in line for a lunch they may not enjoy but have to eat. Then they are required to find a spot to sit in the lunchroom that is crowded and loud, and choke their lunch down in the allowed amount of time. This is not the proper experience for enjoying a good meal. Lunch should be about relaxing, enjoying the food, and a break from stress. You can give this experience to a student in the home school. There is no more pressure to finish in a certain about of time. You can enjoy your lunch.
Adult and real world knowledge
We learn many things in school that we never use. There are also many things we wish we had learned in school. Because we don’t spend our entire lives in the school environment, it is unrealistic to believe that environment can teach us everything we know about life. Learning how to shop, cook, bank, and clean are just some of the basic skills that people need to know when becoming a successful adult. However, these are not very depth subjects for most school curriculum.
Without the restrictions of a tight school schedule, there is more time to spend together as a family. There is no rushing to meet a bus, scrambling to after school activities, or a very strict bedtime. Having to get up early to get ready for school requires child to go to bed at a certain time, but you may find yourself with more time for each other if you decide to home school.
Social skills for the real world
Many complaints against the idea of home school comment about how home schooled children are not socialized enough. However, they are socialized with a group of people that are in the real world. Taking your children for a bank run during ‘school’ means they learn to talk to bankers. They can go to the library and learn how can help them when they are lost. They learn the important skill of learning who to go to when they need answers. They socialize with all ages groups in various settings that are more true to life.
