Who doesn’t want to have a beautiful and elegant Christmas tree? A Christmas tree is central to the Christmas celebration. It has a magical quality that inspires our children and helps the adults catch the Christmas Spirit. There is so much you can do to create an original tree that doesn’t look like a display tree and yet is equally gorgeous. This simple idea can also be great for gift giving and to personalize tree decorations and it’s inexpensive.
For this idea you will need some medium to large Christmas balls. Any color will do. Most people have certain colors they like to accent in their tree. Some accentuate red and gold. Individual preferences span the spectrum to the more unusual color combinations of blue and silver. This method works with whatever colors you choose.
You will need tulip paint and glitter in your choice of accent colors. Using red and gold as an example, you take the red Christmas balls and draw the single leaf of a Poinsetta with Glitter Gold tulip paint. Use the top of the ball as the center of the Poinsetta flower. Draw a single leaf at 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock. Be careful not to touch the wet tulip paint as you turn the Christmas ball in your hand to outline the Poinsetta leaves. Draw a single line, slightly curving in a lazy “S” fashion down the middle of the leaf. Next, sprinkle the wet tulip paint with gold glitter, letting the excess fall onto a sheet of wax paper. The original tray the Christmas balls came in is a handy drying rack. After the tulip paint and glitter dries for about one hour you fill in the Poinsetta with accent leaves at 1 ‘oclock, 4 o’clock, 7 o’clock and 10 o’clock. Again, sprinkle the wet tulip paint with gold glitter and let dry. Be sure to return the excess glitter back into the original container for re-using.
Once the tulip paint has dried then your decorations are ready to hang on your tree!!
These decorations can be personalized with a name, initials and/or the year. These hand made and elegant Christmas balls make great gifts or you can keep them with the date and initials on them for your own children. They will treasure them for a lifetime.
