According to AOL News, Elvira is about to make a late-night comeback on syndicated TV. So will natural redhead Cassandra Peterson, now 59, bring that same black magic when she dons her black ensemble for ‘Elvira’s Movie Macabre’? You’ll have to stay up pretty late on Saturday nights to find out, but the Mistress of the Dark’s new show will definitely make the perfect Halloween treat (if Elvira is up to her same old tricks).
Cassandra Peterson had one very interesting life even before her Elvira transformation, according to IMDB.com. She was the youngest showgirl in Vegas history before Elvis convinced her to pursue a singing career. After living the rock ‘n roll lifestyle for awhile, she would later snag a small and somewhat revealing role in director Federico Fellini’s film ‘Roma’, going on to learn the art of comedy as part of an improvisational troupe in the late 70’s. TV and film appearances, including a part in ‘Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie’ would follow, but it was her character Elvira that finally made the struggling actress a star. Sure she had to deal with getting sued by another late-night horror flick queen, Vampira, for stealing her image and starring in a bad B-movie of her own, but she now endures as one of our favorite Halloween figures (and what a figure she’s got!).
‘Elvira’s Movie Macabre’ will attempt to recapture the B-movie magic of her old campy TV appearances, with the first movie the Mistress of the Dark riffing on being the classic ‘Night of the Living Dead’ (airing this Saturday, September 25th). ‘Elvira’s Movie Macabre’ will feature the good, the bad, and the ugly of horror movies, also showcasing on some of the worst horror movies ever made, including ‘The Killer Shrews’ and ‘Manos, Hands of Fate’. Cassandra Peterson’s last movie and TV appearances were in ‘All About Evil’, a campy horror movie currently continuing to open in theaters across the US, and in an episode of ‘Medium’ last year.
So will Elvira Halloween costumes be as big as her hair this year, a dark tower that would leave Snooki’s little bump cowering in fear? Or will no girls be up late enough to watch ‘Elvira’s Movie Macabre’ on Saturday Nights? I might have to stay up long past midnight to see her show where I’m at, but I know there’s no way I’m missing it. So if you want to get more late-night action than you’ll find at your local bar, check out the schedule here to see when Elvira comes on a boob tune near you.
