This year, it seemed a lot easier to pick the fashion woes over the winners. This was mostly due to stars not picking the right dress for their body type. In general, some of the fluid shapes and neutral colors prevailed over bright frocks and strange lines. Here are my hits and misses for Emmy Fashion 2010.
The Most Stylish
Claire Danes shimmers in a neutral, sequined and Swarovski covered gown by Armani Privé. She looks golden all over. Although her skin and hair do not contrast with the gown, it simply works. Danes is topping many of the best dressed lists this year.
This is definitely the most romantic of the looks. Agron looks like a southern belle in this Carolina Herrera dress. The lace tiered dress features dark and rosy colors for great contrast.
One just can’t go wrong with black, strapless and flowing. The black gown by Robert Rodriguez has wonderful lace details and a simple train.
The Vera Wang was simple and stunning. The sweet ruffle on top and tiny train flowing off the back lend nice detailing to the neutral colored dress.
This young star did a great job picking out her navy Oscar de la Renta gown. The fitted top has a sweetheart neckline and the bottom is covered in cascading ruffles.
I always love it when stars, who play unfashionable characters on television, get all glammed up. I barely recognized Angela Kinsey who plays Angela on The Office. The Romona Keveza dress was black, airy and light. It had beautiful ruffles on top.
Honorable Mentions: Jane Lynch in Ali Rahim and Kim Kardashian in Marchesa
I think everyone agrees that this was a miss for January Jones. The rumpled dress and the bedhead came across as messy. Yet I have to give her some credit for being an individual and wearing what she wanted to wear. I think if the hair was different and the top didn’t have a “cone bra” I might feel differently.
The Hills star normally dresses very cute. While I like the color, the length of this fitted green dress does nothing to elongate her. In general, the sheath looks more like office wear than Emmy wear. Also, her hair and makeup make her appear way older. Lo’s dress was designed by Lauren Caldwell.
The top of this dress by Yigal Azrouel is all wrong. It is too loose on top and very fitted on the bottom. The neutral color does nothing for Graham and the odd top is not figure flattering.
The True Blood Star looks like she’s about to go to battle. Also, she appears to be drowning in the lower half. The gold and black dress is by Alexander McQueen.
There’s simply way too much cleavage. It takes away from Hendricks lovely face. In addition, the drab purple is not flattering for her pale skin. This dress from Zac Posen is pretty but not the right choice.
