Empower your daughter by raising her to be happy and able to take charge of her destiny. She will struggle less as an adult. Also, she will know the joy of being a mature woman.
1) Cultivate her heart.
Develop your daughter’s heart through volunteerism. Show her that the world is a big place with people in various states of existence. You can do this easily by signing her up for clubs like the Girl Scouts; this group will offer her a wide range of activities that will teach her how to be a good citizen and woman.
2) Downplay her exterior.
Avoid putting too much focus on your young girl’s beauty. Instead, empower your daughter by helping her understand that beauty is fleeting. Her worth as a human being shouldn’t be based on how thin, curvaceous or pretty she is. Achieve this by limiting the number of female magazines she reads and praising her for other things besides her looks.
3) Teach her a basic trade.
If you’ve lived for a while, you know that the job market fluctuates. Also, women still have more difficulty earning the same kind of paycheck as a man. Help your daughter be independent and a productive member of society by teaching her a basic trade, one that translates throughout generations. Once she gets into her teens, sign her up for accounting or some other class that she can take through school or at a community center. As she builds her life, what she learns can help her support herself. The trade might even turn out to be her passion.
4) Help her manage money.
Many women are afraid of money because they just don’t understand how to manage their finances. Empower your daughter by showing her how to save money, invest and problem solve during hard times. Start by opening up a savings account for her as soon as she gets allowance. Then, challenge her to save up for an item she wants you to buy. As time passes, she’ll get better at managing her money. Also, don’t forget to talk her about credit. You can even open up to her about your own credit score, so she can understand why you can or can’t purchase certain items.
5) Give her time to have fun.
Empower your daughter by allowing her to be a child. As you raise her to be a well-rounded woman, let her enjoy the journey through play. Take her to a park, introduce her to different types of hobbies and just relax with her by watching TV and listening to music. Offer your daughter the gift of ease and laughter so she doesn’t turn into an uptight adult.
