When my husband was purchasing supplies for his moose hunting trip, one of the items he bought, at Walmart, was the Energizer Trail Finder Headlight. This was not very expensive, around $15.00, but it sure has paid off for our family, and now I am using it.
The Energizer Trail Finder Headlight is small, measuring 2 5/8 inches long, 1 3/4 inches wide, and is 1 1/2 inches deep. It is attached to a sturdy 3/4″ wide head strap, which is adjustable for a wide variety of head sizes. The design of the strap ensures that there are no loose ends flapping around, it is well thought out.
The portion that fits against the forehead has a very soft rubber padding for comfort. The package states that the Energizer Trail Finder Headlight provides 20 lumens, that it will provide light for 30 hours on three triple A style batteries, and that it lights up a path for 40 meters.
There are two light modes and three bulbs. The center LED bulb provides red colored light for night vision, while the remaining two bulbs, positioned on either side of the red bulb, are for daylight vision, and are referred to as a “Spot Light”. If you are only using the night vision, it is designed to last for a bit longer, 38 hours.
The three position switch is located right at the top of the light. When it is in the center it is in the off position, Slide it to the left for night vision, and to the right for the white light. But that is not all this Energizer Trail Finder Headlight can do, it also has the ability to pivot! The section holding the three unbreakable LEDs actually pivots downward! This allows you to direct the beams of light where they will be the most helpful, either casting a light directly in front of you, or down toward your feet (or anywhere in between).
My husband came home from his hunting trip just raving about the Energizer Trail Finder Headlight, saying it was the best flashlight he has ever used. Because of his enthusiasm, I decided to start wearing this light in the mornings when I walk my childcare children down to the bus stop. Here in Alaska it is already getting dark out by the time we leave the house, and pretty soon it will be pitch black, even at 8:30 in the morning. This light is going to come in very handy! In past winters I have used a metal flashlight, which is very powerful, but it also gets very cold. Since the Energizer Trail Finder Headlight is made from heavy duty plastic, and has the soft rubber that goes against my forehead, I don’t imagine this will be a factor at all.
We could have used this tool a few weeks ago when we changed the headlights on our car. My husband needed me to shine the flashlight in a certain area, and since I could not see where he needed the light, I didn’t do a very good job of shining it in the proper place. Had he had this Energizer Trail Finder Headlight, he would have been able to provide the light he needed, exactly where he needed it. It provides a strong beam of light that really illuminates an area – my only complaint is that the beam of light isn’t wider. Walmart did have some similar headlights that offered a wider beam, but they were also double the price.
For the price, I feel the Energizer Trail Finder Headlight was a great bargain, and should prove very useful during our long dark Alaskan winters.
