Today’s political climate is quite frankly disturbing. Far too many people are blindly following the whims of political parties that are simply trying to win an election and weed out the other political view point. The two sides are so polarized it is unbelievable. The conservatives despise the liberals, and the liberals hate the conservatives. The two political parties are at each others’ metaphorical throats. The far right currently is claiming that we somehow “lost America” and it “needs to be taken back”. When we lost it I have no idea but apparently it has been taken from right under my nose. The liberals have recently organized and now has an opposing movement to this so called “tea party” called the “one nation” movement. These two movements should make for some interesting debates. With the liberals finally having a unified voice, there is finally potential for the liberals to be as loud as the conservatives. Hopefully this voice will speak out so that people can see both sides as opposed to just the very loud conservative voice.
When was it ever thought that being entrenched in the view of one political party and blindly following the likes of Rush Limbaugh was beneficial or progressive? Being so ignorant of the other side is utterly self defeating to the nation as a whole. Yes, there is a need for each view so that the issues can be approached from different perspectives. However, the choice is one’s own, and not the choice of a party that is simply looking to achieve their own ends. Blind obedience; be it to a political party or to a person is characteristic of a despot. When parties and people start to buy into this, facts become distorted so that every issue goes against the opposing side or in favor of one’s own side rather than looked at with logic. People lose track of the fact that each party has a legitimate point and can potentially make the country a better place.
This kind of closed mindedness has led to the current schism that is happening in the United States. A very loud minority on each side has become the dominate voice in the nation. Progress never came from being closed minded and hostile to the other view point. To make progress, both views must be taken into consideration and a mutually beneficial conclusion should be reached in the end, moving the country in a positive direction.
In the end, both views need to be looked at and respected for what they are. The republican view is truly valuable, and so is the liberal view, regardless of the downfalls of following the teachings and practices of them blindly and to the letter. They are simply different perspectives and need to be respected as such. The best of each needs to be taken into account in the decision making process.
As a country we need to move away from the idea that there is only one way to run the government. As a democracy, and a nation of free speech, we are entitled to take a view of our own. So why not take advantage of that remarkable opportunity? Why follow the words of others who are trying to achieve their own ends? Make your own decisions, do what is right, not what a party wants. If you fall into a category where you agree 100 percent of the time with a respective party then by all means, follow that party exclusively.
Myself I have found that I cannot follow one party exclusively, my conscious will not allow me to do so. I make my own decisions; I have voted both republican and democrat in my life, and look forward to making an informed decision that moves the country, state, or county in the most beneficial direction according to my world view regardless of the party that the said view or representative falls under.
