Sameness In Difference
Excuse me if I am not like you.
Excuse me if I am different from you.
Excuse me if I was born crippled –
where you were born not.
Excuse me if I was learning old lores
while you learned to tie your shoes.
Excuse me if I developed my mind
while you developed the perfect curve ball.
Excuse me if I pursued cognitive content
where you pursued the sexes.
Excuse me if I wander halls of the mind
seeking the language and thought
of dead masters and mistresses
where you prefer to commit slow suicide
and your evening wine and television.
Excuse me if I am inherently unable
to accept the things you can swallow
without first questioning and investigating.
Excuse me if my mind churns madly
where you find peace and comfort.
Excuse me if the Universe
gave me a mind where She gave you
Excuse me for being human
in a world which does not
permit humanness – only sameness.
Excuse me if I know and accept my differences
where you ridicule and mock difference
through fear and discomfort.
Excuse me if I am different –
if I am not like you.
