Making children’s hand prints is a wonderful way to create a keepsake that you can hold onto for years to come. The craft tutorial below contains step-by-step instructions on how to make a turkey hand print. It is appropriate for kids of all ages to enjoy with a little assistance from an adult.
Finger Paint (Brown, Red, Yellow, Orange, Green)
Construction Paper (Yellow, Orange, Red, Green)
Craft Googly Eye
Step One – Cut two dozen rectangular and square shapes out of the construction paper. Use a variety of colored paper such as yellow, orange, red and green. Put them aside.
Step Two – An adult will need to apply the finger paint onto the child’s right hand. Using a paint brush, paint the child’s entire palm and thumb in the color brown. Rinse your paint brush in between each color. Paint the pointer finger red, the middle finger yellow, the ring finger orange and finally the pinky should be painted green.
Step Three – Place the paper plate onto a flat surface and have the child carefully lay their hand firmly down onto the center. Help them keep their hand and fingers still so the paint doesn’t smear. Allow the hand print to dry while you help wash off the paint from the child’s hand.
Step Four – When the print is dry, glue a small googly eye in the center of the thumb print. With the black marker, draw two stick legs coming down from the center of the hand print.
Step Five – Begin to glue the construction squares that you cut in Step One around the trim of the paper plate. This will be a fun and colorful border!
