When you have a baby, every season brings a new photo opportunity. Babies grow and change so fast, that it is important to capture their many looks before the baby years disappear forever. Sometimes dimples seem to disappear overnight, or a new lock of hair appears out of nowhere. Whatever the reason, it is important to seize the opportunity to capture the essence of your baby in a portrait. Don’t let this fall be any different with these great baby portrait ideas!
One of my favorite photo opportunities of the season involves the use of a very large pumpkin. You may have to visit a local farm that specializes in these, but I’m sure you can find one that suit’s the purpose just fine. After cutting off the top and emptying out the seeds, your baby will fit just right. This pose works well with babies who can support themselves, generally about six months old and up. If you are really creative and your child is enjoying the fun of it, you could fashion some sort of hat with a stem and play peek-a-boo. Set the pumpkin outside with the foliage in the background for a beautiful shot.
Another prop that only comes around once a year are the fallen leaves. A quiet newborn can be posed easily in a nest of leaves. A baby who can sit unsupported will look enchanting as you throw leaves up to fall around his face just as you snap the shutter. Capture the wonder in their eyes as you present a single bright leaf for them to inspect.
When I think of fall, I think of quilts. With the temperatures dropping, I want to snuggle up in a warm patchwork quilt to chase the chill away. For another beautiful fall baby portrait idea, you can wrap up your baby in a quilt and use the natural lighting of a sunset to warm up the tones of the photo. A baby bundled up in a homemade sweater sitting on a quilt under the falling leaves is picture perfect!
In our neck of the woods, fall brings lots of rain. Get out a brightly colored umbrella and go to a natural setting where the trees are almost bare. The umbrella is a wonderful contrast to the background of spindly dark branches. A bright yellow slicker on baby makes a darling portrait.
Good luck capturing that perfect shot this season!
