Many of us have friends or siblings that have families of their own, so we’re not just getting gifts for our loved ones, we have to get gifts for everybody. On a tight budget or just having no clue what to get everybody individually, family gifts that the whole crew can enjoy is a cost effective, easier way to go. Here are a few suggestions for family gifts under $100 that won’t break the bank and will still allow everybody in the whole family to enjoy on Christmas.
I love gift cards, and gift cards to popular restaurants, like Pizza Hut, Olive Garden, or even Subway will not go unappreciated. Who wouldn’t want to receive a $50 gift card for Pizza Hut that the whole family can use? For that matter, a gift card to Wal-Mart would definitely get used and can be a wonderful family gift that the whole brood can use to purchase items that they want or need. For Christmas last year, not knowing what to get the kids, I got them a $200 Wal-Mart gift card that they could use to go along with the Wii my fiance got them. They were able to get the additional games and accessories they wanted, and a few other treats as well.
Board games are always great for families as well. I hope this year to get a few board games myself, because they are so fun to enjoy with the kids. Stick to the classics, like Monopoly, Scrabble, Chutes and Ladders (a fave in my house), UNO, or get a few board games for under $50 that the family can all enjoy together. Just keep in mind the ages of the children, so the young kiddos can get involved with the cool gift themselves, or add in a coloring book or simple puzzle if very young children are in the bunch. Tuck the gifts in a nice basket mom and dad can use later for a pleasant addition that will be greatly appreciated.
Movies are a fun idea as well. Just be careful to stray away from getting movies the family already has, or movies that are deemed inappropriate for the kids or values of the home. We don’t watch rated “R” movies in our house, but neither do our family and friends. You can get a lot of family favorites at Wal-Mart for under $10, and include a box of microwave popcorn so the family can enjoy a “movie night” at home over the holidays. “Old Yeller” is a classic, and “Drop Dead Fred” is a favorite of my whole family since we were tiny.
Just be sure not to get a gift that’s meant for the whole family, but only mom or dad will really like, like a Scentsy candle warmer or a new throw rug. Yes, it’s for the house, but you’re not likely to please everybody. Moms and dads in the end would absolutely love a single gift the whole family can enjoy, so even if you just give them a picnic basket with accessories and a picnic blanket tucked inside for Christmas, the kiddies can be excited for upcoming picnics at the local playground come Spring and Summer, and mom and dad will just be beaming.
