With three small children, I often wake up in the morning wondering, “What should we do today?” While I could easily spend the day cleaning (and rarely make a dent), there are some days when we’re ready to head out and have fun. Thankfully, Annapolis, Maryland is filled with things to do and see. One of the most popular choices for my children is Kinder Farm Park, located in Millersville. This county park boasts a playground, a farm, and plenty of room for children to walk and explore!
Before You Go
Kinder Farm Park is located in Millersville, Maryland, about 10-15 minutes north of Route 50. It is operated by Anne Arundel County’s Recreation and Parks Department, and as one of the larger parks in the area, there is a $6 parking fee per car. There are pavilions for rent for large events. Don’t forget a leash for your dog!
There is a large playground for children at Kinder Farm Park. The playground is appropriate for toddlers as well as older children, and my daughters have spent a lot of time going down (or up) the slides, swinging, and crossing the monkey bars. Parents can sit in the nearby pavilion, on picnic benches, or under a tree and watch their children safely play. Even with the small entry fee, it’s a great place to meet up with other parents and children for a play date.
Though we love a good playground, for my children, the highlight of our trips to Kinder Farm Park is always the small farm and animals that live there. Take the opportunity to go for a short walk from the playground and see old farm equipment, pigs, ducks, rabbits, cows, goats, and other farm animals. My daughters love to head to Kinder Farm Park in the spring and always hope that we’ll see chicks or piglets. According to the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks website, local 4-H members care for the animals-we’ve been lucky enough to be there when they’re hard at work feeding and caring for the animals.
Bring a picnic lunch, set up near the playground, see the farm animals, go for a walk, and then return to eat before you depart. Bring a baseball or football to toss around on the field. Children, and adults, will love to spend a day at Kinder Farm Park.
