Southern California is one of the most fun places to live. Whether you are young, old, rich, or poor there is constantly something to do! Throughout this article I will review some of my tried and true favorite staycation ideas that I have found enjoyable for the whole family.
Huntington Beach is absolutely beautiful during the spring month. Many families enjoy beach camping or simply day trips out surfing and swimming. There are many places nearby to eat, fire pits available for bar-be-queuing, public restrooms and showers, volleyball courts, the list goes on. You can rent all kinds of sporting equipment from surf boards to Tatum bicycles. The locals are friendly and the food is great. Bonfires at night time are absolutely gorgeous. Even if you’re not a beach person yourself, Huntington has a lot to offer. There is quite a bit of shopping, beach hiking, and people watching. Be sure to check out Jack’s Surf Shop on Main Street, and grab a sticker while you’re there!
If the beach isn’t for you, don’t worry! Yucca Valley offers plenty of camping, hiking, and views! This is THE place for dirt biking and quading. You can also check out the High Desert Nature Museum. It is always free of charge and offers a children’s learning center, animal exhibits, and lots of collections relating to the desert. Nearby is a large park and library.
If you enjoy shopping, be sure to check out The Block of Orange. Located on The City Drive in the city of Orange, this large outdoor mall offers live nightly entertainment and a store for every need. There are many fine dining and fast food restaurants, specialty stores, a movie theater, and more. The Ontario Mills Mall in Ontario is also a fun place to be. Offering a large food court and all your favorite stores it will not disappoint.
Finally Big Bear offer all your outdoor favorites! From snowboarding to sledding, hiking to camping, Big Bear offers it all. Enjoy canoeing on the lake, fishing for the big one, mountain biking over woodsy trails, and horseback riding down the open roads. It’s a very calming place to be, tranquil and quiet so you can get in touch with nature.
Fortunately, all of these places are within mere minutes to an hour or two of each other! You can enjoy a fun filled day or make it last the whole week. Try a new activity each day and enjoy yourself this spring break!
