QB: A lot of people in your league will be quick to label Eli Manning as a top 10 fantasy QB. I’m not so quick to label Manning that just yet. Don’t get me wrong he had a fabulous year last year for the Giants, but I expect him to take a small step back this year. My biggest problem with Eli is that he holds the ball too long. He was sacked quite a bit last year, and a lot of people like to blame that on the o-line. I look for the Giants to go back to the running game that worked for them so well the last few years. Realistically I think Eli is a #10-15 QB and should be take in the late to middle rounds.
RB: Brandon Jacobs had a tough year last year and was dealing with a nagging knee injury. Look for Jacobs to fall a bit in this year’s draft simply because of the year he had last year. I honestly think that he will bounce back and have over 1000 yds again this year with over 10 Tds. I would feel extremely comfortable taking him in the middle rounds and laughing at your buddies for saying it’s an idiotic move.
WR: Steve Smith had a breakout campaign last year and look for him to continue that into 2010. He is Eli’s favorite target and had over 100 catches last year. I’m still not completely sure if Smith warrants a high end #1 receiver, but he’s definitely a low end #1 to high end # 2 receiver. My best guess if he will go around the 3rd round, but if you can get him in the 4th, props to you!
TE: With the Giants loaded at WR, I don’t expect TE Kevin Boss to have a huge year. He had ankle surgery this off-season and that might slow him down a bit too. Boss is a #2 TE option and probably be a redzone target for the Giants, so that’s not a bad thing if you can pick him up late.
Defense: I’m really excited to see the Giants defense play back up to their standards this year. They’ve got guys coming back off of injury and they had a good draft defensive wise. You throw Antrel Rolle into the mix and I think you’ve got a winner. I truly expect them to come back up to the New York Giants defense we’re used to.
Sleeper: Last year Hakeem Nicks had a good rookie year as a receiver. I think he can be a real good #2 option and should be able to get picked up in the middle rounds. I also like Nicks in keeper leagues because he is still extremely young.
I think the Giants are going to become a very balanced team in 2010. I look for them to run the ball more and that should open up the passing game for Eli Manning. Their defense seems to be headed in the right direction again. I expect a very strong showing from them this year.
