QB: Josh Freeman is a big kid with a big arm. His biggest problem is that he isn’t polished. I absolutely love the kids athletic ability and ability to make a play with his feet, but sometimes he seems to get himself in trouble. He completes just over half of his passes, and doesn’t have established receivers. This is a big red flag to me, and makes me wonder if this isn’t the year to have Freeman starting for your team. He should only be drafted as a #2 QB for your team, and could end up being a good pick if your in a keeper league.
RB: Cadillac Williams was able to stay on the field for a full 16 games last year, but still didn’t put up huge numbers. Along with an injury prone career, and low TD total, Williams is a concern for me. I don’t look for the Bucs to have a good running game this year, and drafting Cadillac might be a mistake if you’re looking for a #1 RB. Although he could be a decent #2 RB because he certainly has the athletic ability.
WR: The Bucs seem to have a few young receivers that have are loaded with potential. Perhaps rookie Mike Williams has the most potential of all of them. He’s really helped his stock with a strong training camp and has earned himself a starting nod. That’s still not enough for me to tell you to take a chance on this young stud. I’m still a bit worried because I’m not sure the Bucs have a QB that’s going to put him in the best position to succeed. Williams will be a good pick for you if you want to take a chance on him in the later rounds in a deep league.
TE: I’m actually a big fan of Kellen Winslow and what he did last year. He seems to be a security for Freeman, and look for Winslow to improve upon his 77 catches for 884 yards from last year if Freeman can continue to develop. Winslow is most likely a lower end #1 TE for your team.
Defense: The defense seems to be headed in the right direction, but still not enough to crack my top 20. I might wait 1 more year before selecting this improving defense.
I like what the Bucs are doing down there in Tampa, but I still think they’re a few years away. They’ve got a good core group of players and look for them to really come together as a team this year.
