The Bengals came up big today in beating a very solid Ravens team as the passing attack once again set the stage with 35 Carson Palmer passes. Lets take a look at what occurred.
Carson Palmer: 16/35 for 167 yards with no TD’s or INT’s. Palmer wasn’t good here and is really starting to look like a hazy starter in fantasy football. Most benched him anyway in going against the Ravens top notch defense but he is definitely not the same guy who lit up the league when he first arrived.
Cedric Benson: 12 carries for 78 yards. Benson ran the ball well in his surprisingly limited opportunities. Surprising in that the passing game wasn’t getting it done and Benson was providing a spark. Either way Benson is strictly for TD heavy leagues.
Terrell Owens: 3 catches for 57 yards. The average was good but not the total. No worries. Owens was a low round draft pick who is providing value greater than his draft spot.
Chad Ochocinco: 4 catches for 44 yards. Ochocinco only got a third of the catches that he had last week but he still will give good numbers more often than not.
Jordan Shipley: 5 catches for 42 yards. My favorite sleeper/rookie of the season. You all should just listen to me and pick him up if you are in a PPR league. 5 should be the average amount of catches each week for him.
Jermaine Gresham: 3 catches for 15 yards, Came back to earth as expected. Gresham will have his moments but there is too much competition for balls for him to out up top level numbers.
Mike Nugent: 5/5 on FG. Shayne Graham used to be a great kicking option in the Cincy offense and now Mike Nugent is putting his name into the conversation. Those who own Rob Bironas like myself should look here if you want more bang (i.e. kicking chances) for your buck.
Joe Flacco: 17/39 for 154 yards with 1 TD and 4 INT’s. I am starting to worry about Flacco as should all fantasy owners. That’s now 1 TD and 5 picks through two games. I spoke highly of Flacco coming into the season and felt he would put himself into the upper tier of passers in the league due to all of his weapons. Its just not happening for whatever reason and it might be time to sit him for a week and try a different option.
Ray Rice: 16 carries for 87 yards along with 4 catches for 30 yards. Rice was ordinary like everyone else in this game but there are no worries here like we have with his QB. He is PPR magic and will burst out any day now.
Anquan Boldin: 5 catches for 35 yards. He always gets his catches no matter what. Another PPR gem but you have to worry about his QB a bit now.
Derrick Mason: 1 catch for 31 yards and 1 TD. Has officially been passed by Anquan Boldin in the Joe Flacco love meter and he no longer warrants a starting spot. He is a good bye-in fill-in though.
Todd Heap: 4 catches for 35 yards. It was a typical Heap game. Nothing he did here moved the wow meter for sure.
Billy Cundiff: 1/1 on FG. Lets move on.
