Lake Stevens is a town growing larger by the year, but even with this growth it is difficult to find farm-fresh food during the winter season. Luckily for the health-conscious shopper, there are a few places to buy quality fresh food.
Lake Stevens has several local produce stands, but only one is open during the winter season (to my knowledge). Millingwood Organics is a small certified organic farm located in the area. The farm stand appears to be open on Friday and Saturday afternoons from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM, but will adjust to demand as needed. Crops listed for the winter season are: Kale, lettuce, mustard greens, salad greens, salad mix, and swiss chard. Millingwood Organics travels to farmers markets in Snohomish and Mukilteo when the markets are in operation, and the farm is a member of the Tilth Producers of Washington (TPW).
The Millingwood Organics farm stand is located at 7816 111th Ave NE, Lake Stevens, WA 98258. The contact for the farm stand is David Mills, who can be reached at 425-232-3227.
Jay’s Market, located in downtown Lake Stevens, is also a source of fresh food during the winter season. While this small store doesn’t have a large selection of farm-fresh food, it is one of the very few small independent stores in the area to carry fresh fruits and vegetables. The store has a friendly and clean environment, located in the heart of Lake Stevens. Jay’s Market is a well-known staple of the town, and has been for many years.
Jay’s Market is located at 1809 Main Street, Lake Stevens, WA 98258. Contact the store at 425-334-1256 to inquire about their current inventory.
Larger chain stores located in the Frontier Village section of Lake Stevens (near Highway 9) can also be a source for fresh winter food.
Haggen Food & Pharmacy is a chain local to Western Washington, which purchases fresh food from local farmers. Haggen has a large portion of the store dedicated to fresh fruits and vegetables, many of which are certified organic, with most of the produce purchased from farms in Washington State.
Haggen is located at 8915 Market Place, Lake Stevens, WA 98258. The phone number for Haggen is 425-377-7100.
Safeway is a larger national chain also located in the area. Safeway has the largest portion of their store dedicated to fresh produce, and have also marked their support for local fruits and vegetables. Organic produce is also a portion of their selection. From personal observation, Safeway probably offers the best prices for produce in the area.
Safeway is located at 717 State Route 9 Northeast, Lake Stevens, WA 98258. The phone number for Safeway is 425-249-4000.
A third major chain store located in the Lake Stevens area is Albertsons. Albertsons has been in the area longer than the other stores, but also has a hit-or-miss reputation for having certain items in stock. This store has a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, some of which are organic.
Albertsons is located at 303 91st Ave NE #F, Everett, WA 98205. The phone number for Albertsons is 425-335-3421.
While many of the local produce stands in Lake Stevens shut down for the winter season, there are a few other ways to purchase farm-fresh food. Whether it be from an organic farm or a national chain, having fresh produce in the winter is not impossible. Visit or call the different local options to find out their selection and make your choice for some fresh winter produce!
