Our lovely city by the bay is an interesting amalgamation of several distinct and unique neighborhoods. Bernal Heights feels like just like a small town within a larger city. Whenever we feel like taking a “vacation-day” in our own city, we head to Cortland Avenue, the main drag on Bernal Heights to enjoy some our favorite places like Sandbox Bakery, Red Hill Books and Heartfelt, a fun little gift shop. Bernal has a unique vibe and as you walk around and soak it in, it almost feels like you have left San Francisco and are on holiday.
This coming weekend on Saturday, October 17th, there is another reason to head up the hill between 10 to 6 pm – the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center is hosting Fiesta on the Hill. Expect some fun family activities like a petting zoo, pony rides and a pumpkin patch. There will also be free live entertainment and music on two stages by acts like Enzo Garcia and Venezuelan Music Project. There will be delicious food from vendors ranging from Pica Pica Kitchen to Happy Cowboy BBQ.
Proceeds will benefit the Neighborhood Center which aims to preserve and enhance the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of the Bernal Heights. So have some fun for a good cause and if you don’t live in Bernal explore a new neighborhood in the process!
