Looking for a great Mexican restaurant in Wichita, Kansas? If you haven’t tried Felipe’s Mexican Restaurants on either side of Wichita, you should add them to your list of places to eat at.
Felipe’s Mexican Restaurant in Wichita, Kansas, is owned by three different factions of the Felipe family. The original Felipe’s in west Wichita, located at 3434 W. Central, is the original family restaurant. My husband and I haven’t tried this Felipe’s yet.
The second location for this family owned chain is now known as Felipe’s, Jr. Felipe’s Jr was located at 7820 E. Harry. My husband and I had eaten at this location a few times before they moved to Harry and Webb. We liked this location’s Mexican food.
My husband and I have also eaten at their third location at 21st and Woodlawn. However, this Felipe’s Mexican Restaurant was opened by Felipe’s brother, Roberto and his family. I found the food at the 21st and Woodlawn’s location to be much better than the Felipe’sJr.
At the 21st and Woodlawn Felipe’s location, I order the sancho topped with Chili con Queso. This dish is served with beans and rice. I choose ground beef as my choice of meat for this sancho. I like the chili sauce they cover their sancho with. It isn’t to spicy. Some Mexican restaurants, the chili sauce has more heat than I can handle. My husband prefers the Chili Verde version of the sancho. These plates cost $10.25 apiece.
At the second and third locations, their serving portions are large. They are so large, all the times we have eaten at these two locations, we have had to get to-go boxes. In both cases, we had enough left over for a second meal.
Comparing them to Chili’s, their dinners are moderately are a bit cheaper for two people. When we eat at Felipe’s for the two of us, we can get out of both places right around $25 before tax. When we eat at Chili’s, our tab is right around $30 before tax. This is including tea or soda as our drinks.
There is now a fourth location in west Wichita at 119th West and Maple. My husband and I have yet to eat at this location. I suspect we will be trying out this location at some point as well.
The only reason we haven’t eaten at either of the West Wichita locations is because they are in the West side of the city. We frequent the East and Northeast parts of Wichita more than the West side.
