Ferndale Michigan wants the community to be a “green” one and at the same time it will help residents save money. They have a dedicated web page on their site with a pretty impressive list of ways the residents can “go green” and many of these suggestion will help save money as well.
On the list are some things that are costly like replacing appliances with more efficient models and upgrading windows but there are also some appealing, inexpensive ideas. It does not cost a lot of money to weather strip you windows and doors or fix dripping water facets. Using rain water and creating a rain water collection system could actually save you money on watering your outdoor plants as well as installing a programmable thermostat for temperature control. Insulating your pipes is not a huge expense but it could save you a lot of money and aggravation by decreasing the chances of your pipes bursting in Michigan’s extremely cold winters. There are a lot more suggestions, these are just a few, but if you want to see the complete list just check out the city of Ferndale’s website.
The city of Ferndale has also created the Environmental Sustainability Commission committee and they have meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the Kulick Community Center. This committee has lots of great ideas to encourage residents of Ferndale to “go green” and save money on their utility expenses. The November 9th meeting will help you to “green up” your holiday with lots of creative ideas for this holiday season.
The city of Ferndale is making it easy for residents to save money and helping to create an environmentally friendly community. Way to go Ferndale!
