The weekend of Sept. 17-18 was an eventful one, as Fabulous Ferndale hosted not one, but two fairs! The Ferndale Funky Art Fair as well as the DIY Street Fair commenced with beautiful weather (perhaps the last days of summer) and crafters and artists from all across metro Detroit. Funky Art Fair was located at West Nine and DIY on East Troy, both of them family friendly.
The DIY Street Fair has been successful in previous years and is all about Michigan-grown products and people. Perhaps the biggest highlight for most was the beer garden and a bevy of local bands. It is always a joy to see locals show their creative side and help continue to support this state during these hard times.
Meanwhile, the Funky Art Fair welcomed you with a huge sculpture of a carousel, made from stained glass and metal. Unlike the DIY Street Fair, the Funky Art Fair caters to all sorts of artists who come from across ,the country in order to hawk their wares. The carousel, of course, felt like it stole the show however.
The bands were kicking, the crafts were wonderful to ogle at and the weather was very permitting. Another job well done, Ferndale!
To top it off, parking was free as well as entry to both fairs.
