With each passing year our children change dramatically. They grow taller, they loose or gain teeth, and change their style with each passing day. Capture a memory of your child at Christmas every year by making jar lid ornaments. These easy DIY Christmas craft projects look great on the tree, and will also make inexpensive gift idea for grandparents and other family members. Jar lid ornaments require very few supplies, and take only a few moments to make.
The materials needed to make jar lid ornaments include:
– A photograph of your child
– Mason jar lid
– Spray paint (color of your choice)
– Thin gold wire wrapping ribbon
– Decorative ribbon
– Hot glue gun
How to make jar lid ornaments:
STEP 1 – Lay your photograph on a flat surface and place your jar lid on top. Move the lid around until you find which area of the picture you want to display inside the lid. Then, draw a circle with a pencil to mark your spot.
STEP 2 – Cut out your photograph.
STEP 3 – Spray paint the jar lid the color of your choice (green, gold, silver, or red are great color choices for this DIY Christmas craft project). Allow it to dry completely.
STEP 4 – Wrap ribbon around the outer lip of the mason jar lid with decorative ribbon. Hot glue in place.
STEP 5 – Insert your photograph into the back of the lid. When it is in place, apply hot glue all around the outer edges of the back of the photo. This will hold it in place. Hot glue dries quickly and you will see it take shape right away. If the lid your using has a flat metal lid (as in a mason jar) go ahead and press it against the back of the photograph and secure it in place.
STEP 6 – This easy DIY Christmas craft project is now almost complete! To finish your jar lid ornaments, simply form a loop with a piece of thin gold wrapping ribbon and glue it in place at the top, back area of the ornament. This will be the ‘hook’ that hangs the ornament from the tree.
STEP 7 – Now, simply add the finishing touch. Using decorative ribbon, tie a bow and glue it at the top of the ornament.
Make a new jar lid ornament each year and display them together on your holiday tree. It’s fun to see how your family changes with each passing year.
