Throughout history the marauder has been a rover, a raider, a pillager and a fiend. A marauder is a vulture, a plunderer and a hellion, roaming the land in search of ample booty. He is like the autumn wind, blustering through villages, crumpling and flattening the dead in its wake like a pile of dead leaves.
In Final Fantasy XIV, The Marauder is a similar instrument of war. The Marauder is one of five disciplines of melee combat, including Archers(bows), Lancers(spears and lances), Pugilists(claws and metal knuckles, and Gladiators(swords and shields). The Final Fantasy XIV Marauder employs use of the Great Axe, which historically has been associated with berserkers, but seldom used by Final Fantasy heroes, outside of the notable Rune Axe and Ogrekiller. In Final Fantasy XI, the Great Axe was used primarily by warriors and beastmasters. In the world of Hydaelyn, however, the Great Axe is synonymous with Eorzean pirates, bandits who roam the Aldenard continent in search of treasure. Whether using the single bladed War Axe or the double bladed Labrys, the Marauder can create maximum mayhem with every swivel.
Similar to the Vikings who inspired the great berserkers, a Final Fantasy XIV Marauder is known for its towering, intimidating presence, without the fantastical hirsuteness. Their ferocity, verve, and size makes them often recruited for hunts, helping to rid the land of monsters and dangerous beasts. They have been employed as mercenaries, credited with turning the tide in feudal wars with nothing more than single, fearsome swingYet the Final Fantasy XIV Marauder is not limited to traditional melee and close range combat, with throwing axes like the Iron, Brass, Bronze and Silver Francisca in their ancillary arsenal.
Nevertheless, the heart of the Final Fantasy XIV Marauder lies in his base. Whether they possess the tank legs of the Roegadyn or the stout trunks of a Lafalell, marauders generate the torque necessarily to wield a heavy weapon with adequate velocity and force. Yet the marauder does not swing a blunt instrument like a dumb, jabbering beast. He uses the axe with control and precision, maximizing the effect of every blow.
