Today’s news casts are a constant reel of bad news and worse news. The economy is down, wars are raging, and the United States is in the largest deficit of its history. Fashion magazines print covers that portray images of unattainable perfection. No one seems to want to tell the truth that despite all that is going around us, God is in control. The creator of the universe is ready and willing to take our pains and frustrations away, all that is needed is that we ask and believe.
(Matthew 7:7 New American Version) “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”. Our prayers do not go unanswered. They may not be answered in the manner we expect or want but they are always answered. There is a comfort in knowing our prayers are not fruitless. We are invited to seek God every moment of every day. He invites us with open arms to come to him. His deepest desire is just to spend time with us. When we knock at that door we are boldly pursuing God. That pursuit can only take our lives in an amazing direction. There is no limit on what God will do with a willing heart.
Ephesians 1:18-21 May the eyes of [your] hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for those who believe, in accord with the excercise of his great might, which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at the right hand in the heavens, far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come.
There is great love that pours from those verses. The God of the universe wants our lives to be filled with hope and prosperity. Our power from Christ is an unstoppable force no man can void. He trumps any government, rules, requirements, or group of the most powerful people on earth. His stamp of approval is the only one needed to accomplish his goals.
A few years ago, I had a few pieces of life that needed to fall into place. I had tried every option I knew and didn’t really have the right connections in a staggering economy. Stopped in traffic on my way home one night, the back door to the 18 wheeler in front of me read “Considerate it solved”. I knew God was trying to reassure me he was in control. Two weeks later my prayers were answered. The people God brought in my life astounded me to no end. He is above every principality, authority, power, and dominion.
John 15:27 “Peace I leave you; my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid”. Gods peace is nonexclusive. There are no strings, conditions requirements or black out dates. His peace is infinite. This gift allows us to weather any storm that comes our way. When we spend time worried we give away our peace. As children of God, it is our right and privilege to let him fight our battles for us.
1 Corinthians 13:13 So faith, hope, love remain theses three, but the greatest is love. Love is the most indomitable force on the planet. It can not be contained, seen, or touched. Its power can take your breath away or bring you to tears in mere seconds. Love is the strength that sustains our souls when we are hanging onto that last thread. The simple words “I love you” can have the biggest impact you will ever make on a person.
Ephesians 2:11,12 In him we were chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory, we who first hoped in Christ. We are chosen not accidents of nature, our lives have purpose and meaning. God chose to breathe his life into everyone living. We get on the hamster wheels of life and forget that our purpose here on earth is to glorify God. We weren’t born to go to meaningless jobs, pay bills or drudge through life. God has a purpose for each one of us and it is our responsibility to fulfill his plan.
