The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is a primary resource for energy-related topics that affect us here in the United States. They list the most current government-supported programs, news releases and opportunities on their Website. It’s always kept relevant with up-to-date information — a very valuable tool for everyone interested in energy and green issues.
The USDA Energy Website defines their list of resources as, “… many programs to assist farmers, rural residents, and the nation to respond to energy-related issues and opportunities. These range from basic scientific research to the development and commercialization of new technologies. They include outreach and education, technical assistance programs, financial support for infrastructure, and the adoption of energy-saving products by USDA itself. From more efficient farming techniques, wind farms, and ethanol plants to biochemical and genomics research, USDA is deeply involved in and committed to the nation’s quest for energy security.”
The website offers what they call the “Energy Matrix”. Looking for a specific agency? You can find agricultural research, state education cooperatives, farm or forest services, rural development or conservation services, among others. Information is further broken down by program group, energy type, assistance type. Each if these can be further sorted between energy initiatives or funding opportunities.
For example, for an agency, select Rural Development. Go to the program group “energy, efficiency and conservation”, the energy type, “solar”, the assistance type, “grants”, then sort the inquiry by “funding opportunities”. The result can be found here and includes eighty (80) funding sources ranging from “Agriculture Energy Systems” to “USDA, DOE Biomass Research, Development and Demonstration Projects” and “Electronic Stewardship.”
USDA refers to the Energy Matrix as, “…a Navigational Aide. USDA’s energy related programs are large in scope, and extends among many USDA agencies and mission areas. To help you navigate the maze, USDA has developed this web site matrix which allows you to search by agency, technology type, and program. If you are searching for alternative and affordable energy solutions, funding for projects, available programs and program information, or research and development – we are here to assist you. The Energy Matrix is USDA’s one-stop-shopping matrix serving the public, private businesses and the government.”
This is gold mine of energy-related information that covers the entire scope of what is going on out there at the federal and state levels. It’s the go-to resource for everyone who is looking to stay focused and current with the energy initiatives. You can find the United States Department of Agriculture Website here.
