The first ever meeting of the Gowanus Canal Citizen Advisory Group (CAG) is to be held later this month, on October 26th from 7-10pm at the Old American Can Factory, 232 Third St. The meeting is open to the public and doors will open at 6:15.
This first meeting will primarily address the super-fund cleanup of the canal, including time-line, updates and related community activities. The agenda also will include introductions as well as CAG structural and procedural issues, given that this is the first meeting.
This agenda may sound daunting, depressing, or overly stuck in committee talk, but the goal of the CAG is to provide “a public forum for community members to present and discuss their needs and concerns about the hazardous waste cleanup” in the canal.
Members of the CAG will in effect become the point of contact between the EPA and the community and work with the EPA to “solve problems.” If you are a resident of the area you would presumably have some interest in the issues this CAG will address and the functions it will perform.
