I am sure many of you asthma sufferers have heard that eating fish or taking fish oils supplements can help decrease the amount of asthma attacks you have and the severity of them. I am an asthma sufferer and I started taking fish oil supplements and eating some fish about 3 months ago and I can see there definitely is an improvement. I have less asthma attacks and they seem to be less server than they were.
The reason eating fish or taking fish oil supplements can help asthma sufferers is because fish contains a natural eicosapentaenoic acid in it that helps relieve inflammation in the body and especially in the air ways, lungs, and heart. For those of you who don’t know what eicosapentaenoic acid is it’s one of the omega 3 fatty acids. We all need omega 3 fatty acids in our diet to keep our organs healthy and strong so they can function properly without having to deal with inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids also helps keep the skin, hair, and nails healthy as well so consider not only eating fish and taking fish oil supplements for improving your asthma condition, but also to help you stay young and beautiful from the inside out.
Now not only does fish and fish oil supplements contains eicosapentaenoic acid to help relieve inflammation, but they also contain essential minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, and proteins our whole entire body needs to stay in top health so we can breathe easier. When our body is stressed out or suffering from a health condition that isn’t normal our bodies tend to need more oxygen. When our bodies lack oxygen we tend to wheeze and cough more and sometimes feel out of breath. The nutrients in fish that are so vital to our health are omega 6, vitamins A and D, iodine, selenium, phosphorous, calcium, iron, and potassium. These nutrients are also what help our lungs breathe easier and lessen the severity of asthma attacks.
Some of the types of fish you should consider getting into your diet and eating would be salmon, cod, trout, anchovy, sardine, and mackerel. You can cook the fish by grilling, baking, sauteing, steaming, or frying. There are several recipes the Internet that can tell you how to cook the type of fish you want to cook properly. I simply think the best way to eat fish is either steamed or baked because the fish seems to hold more nutrients when you cook them this way.
If your not a big fish eater you can always taking fish oil supplements. Fish oil supplement can be found in drug stores, grocery stores, health food stores, and herbal stores. They usually come in gel capsules or liquid forms. They do not smell or taste like fish at all so the supplement are easier to take. However, you will want to take to your doctor before taking these supplements to make sure they are right for you. If your doctor says they are ask him or her what the proper dosage is for you to take.
Now with all this being said if you are allergic to any type of fish than this is not the root for you to go to help treat your asthma. Those who are allergic to shell fish need to be very careful eating fish and taking fish supplements because most of the time shell fish comes into contact with fish or fish supplements. Sometimes fish oils are made with shell fish so be very careful if you are allergic to fish. Another thing to watch out for is not to eat fish every single day because some fish do contain low mercury in them and mercury isn’t healthy for us. Try having fish a couple times week and that should help get the right amount of eicosapentaenoic acid and other nutrients in your diet to help lessen and prevent server asthma attacks.
So, all you asthma sufferers if you are able to eat fish or take fish supplements to help lessen the severity of your asthma and to prevent attacks than start getting that fish into your diet. I wish all of you the very best with trying to get your asthma under control again.
