Dishwashers can have many perplexing problems. Many of these problems can be solved by some simple common sense type repairs without calling a service technician. Like any machine certain parts of a dishwasher need attention from time to time.
Here are five common problems and what can be done by the consumer to repair them:
Problem 1: Improper loading of the dishwasher can create a problem for the dishes on the top rack. This problem can be remedied by taking two simple steps. Step one place all pots, pans on the top rack and step two, load all plates and glass wear on the bottom rack.
Problem 2: Water on the floor. Water on the floor in some cases can be caused by foaming. The remedy is making sure the proper detergent is used. The other thing that can cause foaming is pre-soaking the dishes in the sink using regular dish washing liquid. The solution is pre-soak the dishes in regular hot water instead.
Check this before calling a technician by feeling around the bottom of the door and seeing if is wet.
Problem 3: Dishes are not getting clean and the dishwasher is loaded correctly. This could be a stopped up spray arm. This is the metal arm that turns inside the dishwasher and works like a shower head.
To check this problem remove the plastic tower located above the spray arm by turning it clockwise. Then lift the spray arm off and check the ports or holes in the arm to see if they are clogged. If so unclog them using some calcium and lime remover. Simply soak the arm in water with the remover until the ports clear.
Problem 4: Dishes not getting clean at the top of the machine. This is a problem similar to loading. Check to see if the tower is connected if not retrieve it from the bottom of the dishwasher and screw it back on turning it counter clockwise.
Problem 5: The door on the dishwasher will not shut. First make sure all the racks are in place and then check the screws that hold the dishwasher to the counter top to be sure they are in place. If the screws are loose simply re-tighten them, this will fix this problem.
Any one of these problems can be easily repaired by the consumer. Always check them before calling a service technician this will save you money.
