I think it is safe to say that every college student would greatly appreciate receiving a care package from home. Not only will it bring a smile to their face, but it will also provide the basic necessities that they so desperately need. So, what are the top five things to include in a care pack? Read on to find out!
Gift cards and/or gas cards are the perfect thing to include in a care package. A gift card for a store like Wal-Mart can be used to purchase groceries, household items, clothing, or any number of things that are sold in the store. A gas card is a great idea if they depend on a vehicle to get around. There is also Visa cards you can purchase that can be redeemed anywhere that the card is accepted. iTunes gift cards are a good choice too.
What college student wouldn’t enjoy some of mom’s home-baked cookies or pie? This can be an extremely effective “pick-me-up” when they are homesick. Just keep in mind not to send anything that will perish within 3-4 days; you want it to arrive in inedible condition. You may also want to send extra’s so they can share with their friends.
Personal Hygiene and Cleaning Supplies
Sometimes students may forget to buy items that they really need, namely cleaning supplies and certain personal hygiene products.
• Basic cleaning kit: bucket, rags, sponge, cleaning agent
• Hand sanitizer: keeps those nasty germs at bay
• Towels and washcloths
• Dental floss
College students need time to relax. Sending special items that they can indulge themselves in will bring that much needed relaxation. For females this can include: housecoat, slippers, bubble bath, razor, lotions, candles, scented body spray or oil, nail file, or facial products. For guys, you can include: shaving cream, aftershave, cologne, hair gel (if they use it), nail clippers, razor, or facial moisturizer.
Adding some personal touches to their dorm or apartment can make them feel more at home. Sending home furnishings will help your student achieve this. Some things you may want to send are: blankets and/or throws, bedding, pillows, picture frames (and some photos from home), art for the walls, kitchenware, or holiday decorations. The possibilities are endless here, so have fun!
Remember to include a personal note!
