With Cataclysm, the third expansion to the wildly successful MMORPG World of Warcraft, Blizzard is focusing lots of attention on the old zones of Azeroth. Even though World of Warcraft’s popularity has continued to grow over the years, many people that played the game in the beginning no longer play anymore. The following five reasons are why old players might want to reactivate their accounts so they can check out how much has changed.
Flying Mounts Usable In All Zones
With all of the changes in the redesign of the old Azeroth zones, one of the nicest things is that you will now be able to use your flying mount in all of the old outdoor Azeroth zones. One of the most requested changes by players, this will make it much faster and more convenient when traveling around Azeroth.
New Race And Class Combinations
Another nice addition coming in the expansion is that almost every race will have access to a new class. Some of the new combinations include Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, and Tauren Paladin.
Streamlined Class Mechanics
Making things more convenient seems to be one of the big themes running through the Cataclysm expansion. Two of the nicest things that Blizzard is changing is removing the need for ammunition when using ranged weapons, and removing the need for Soul Shards for Warlock spells. These changes will definitely make playing a Hunter or Warlock less annoying, as they will no longer have to dedicate bag space to these items.
New Secondary Profession – Archaeology
The three secondary professions of Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing have been in the game since the beginning. A fourth one, Archaeology, is being added in the Cataclysm expansion. This new profession will let all players find valuable artifacts and earn unique rewards.
Two New Races – Worgen and Goblins
Two new playable races are being added in Cataclysm, Worgen for the Alliance and Goblins for the Horde. Lore issues aside, I think these are two good choices for new playable races. Many players have wanted to play as Goblins for a long time, and the Worgen adds a more “beastly” option for Alliance players.
All in all, the Cataclysm expansion for World of Warcraft seems to be shaping up to be a very nice addition to the game. It seems that Blizzard has listened to some of the complaints of longtime fans, and is making many changes that will make lots of players happy.
