Losing weight can be very difficult for many people. We live in a society that offers so many options to lose weight and look great. How do we choose? What is the best way to balance time, money, health, and exercise?
Meal replacement bars and shakes seem to be the perfect solution for those of us that have little time to spare. Many of us feel that the time required to prepare healthy meals can be too consuming in our daily lives. So we turn to the “obvious” choice.
However, there are many things that the general public does not know about these bars and shakes. Most people that purchase these items do so with little or no knowledge of the product other than what they have learned on commercials paid for by the manufacturer. This can be a dangerous decision for some people. Here you will find some information that the commercials and ads WON’T tell you!
Number one: There is a very low nutritional value in one diet shake. Whether you prepare it or purchase it in a can prepared, you are only getting about 200-240 calories. This may not be enough for some people to function effectively. Women need an average of 1500-2000 calories a day and men need an average of 2500 calories a day. With these diet shakes providing two out of three meals, this requirement will not likely be met and general health may suffer. You can read more here.
Number two: Substituting healthy meals with processed drinks is simply not conducive to healthy living. The human body was not created to exist on drinks and substitutes. Like anything else, the substitute will not provide optimal results.
Number three: There is hidden sugar in these shakes. People get a boost from the shakes and experience a crash later in the day. The vitamin properties in each shake leave a lot to be desired. With so much sugar in the shakes, some people that may have diabetes and are consuming these shakes are at special risk for health complications. You can see a sample product’s nutritional value here.
Number four: Though these shakes and bars may help people in losing weight, they are not an effective tool in keeping the weight off. Man cannot live on shakes alone. This is why weight cycling, or losing weight and “cycling back” to the previous weight, is so common. If you so choose to begin your weight loss journey it is important to keep in mind that this is not a permanent solution to your obesity issues. One must learn to eat healthy foods and keep a balanced diet as a priority. As you are losing weight on the shakes and bars, prepare your meal plan for the future and research what will work best for you.
Number five: Remember to exercise! Every meal plan requires exercise as well. DO not forget to nourish your body with exercise as well as vitamins.
With these five facts, you can make an educated decision as to what diet will work best for you, in the short term and the long term.
