When you think of a flamingo, you might think of a bright pink or coral tinted bird, so when you find out the NYX cosmetics has an eye shadow by this name you might think “hideous”.
When I was at my Ulta store for the first time I noticed this brand, NYX, which I had heard and read so much about. I was really excited to see what kind of products they offered and how expensive these might be.
Ulta has really fabulous sales on NYX products most of the time and you can often find products at buy one get one half off or even buy one get one free. I was lucky enough to stumble upon one of these sales the first time around.
I was mainly looking for eye shadows, as I usually experiment more in shadow colors than any other face product or cosmetic.
When I saw a wonderful midtoned mauve, almost taupe gold, with a hint of pink coloration to it, I was really excited, as it looked like a great all over lid color.
When I turned the small container over to see what the name was I was astonished to find that it was “flamingo”. I looked at another one, and bingo, “flamingo” again. I thought it must have been a mistake because I thought flamingo must have meant some super bright neon color that can only be worn on South Beach in the heat of the summer.
I bought the eye shadow along with 2 others and was pleased with my purchase.
NYX single eye shadows are usually around $5 when not on sale and even at this higher price, they are well worth the purchase.
This particular shade is smooth and velvety and very soft and easy to apply. Some shadows are soft and very powdery and not blendable, but this one is perfect.
The color is definitely more wearable than the name suggests and is definitely a perfect all over lid color.
You could even wear this in your crease if you are fair skinned along with an even lighter cream shade on your lid.
I am not sure how this color would show up on medium skin tones, but on pale or deep colored skin, this should be fine.
You can easily build up the coverage if you want to, or do a light sweep across your eye for the smallest bit of color.
I often use this color when I am in a hurry or when I am not sure which color to use as an all over lid application.
This is just one of those colors that can be glam or subtle depending on the other shades you are using it with.
I definitely recommend this shade if you are used to wearing neutrals and just a tiny more color, but something still very wearable for work or school.
