Flywheel is a Christian movie about a used car salesman, Jay Austin, who ripped off his customers for about two years. He is the owner of Jay Austin Motors. He overcharged his clients anywhere from $1500 – $2000.
Jay’s wife is a Christian and attends church regularly. Jay goes to church with his wife from time to time but really has not made a full commitment to Jesus Christ. This is the reason why he is cheating his customers. Jay even cheated the Pastor of the church that they go to when he came in to buy a car once. Afterwards, the Pastor prayed with Jay and asked God to bless his business and to bless him just the way Jay blessed him that day with the sale of the car. The Pastor thought he was getting a good deal.
One day Jay overheard his son, Todd, talking to his friend. Todd told his friend that his dad is not truthful to people and that he cheats them. The reason why Jay was overcharging his customers was because he is behind on certain payments like his mortgage. He owed the bank over $32,000. The banker came to Jay at his dealership one day and told him that he will have to close down the place if he cannot make a payment soon.
One day Jay was flipping the channels on his television. He came across a minister that was speaking about people making wrong choices. He was saying that some people are in a mess today because of the choices they are making. Jay listened to him for a while. This really is not new to Jay. He does attend church with his wife from time to time, but the only problem is that he never totally surrendered his life to Christ. After watching this minister on television, Jay began to have a change of heart.
Jay realizes that he has been selfish, and not a good husband and father. He prays to God and asks for forgiveness. He tells God that he needs Him and that he needs help. Jay now wants to start being honest in his business. He wants to sell cars at a fair market value. When Jay explains all this to his employees, two of them quit. They figured they would be working harder now for less money.
While Jay was watching television one night, a special news report came on. Evidently, they had interviewed Jay after his change of heart and he said he wants to give his customers a fair price. Jay did not know this was going to be broadcasted on television and he was surprised. The story was about other dealerships who were dishonest but they had found one dealer who was not and that was Jay’s dealership. The next day after the broadcast, Jay went to work and found about 30 people waiting outside to buy a car from him. He was starting to see how God is now blessing his business since he is now doing things the right way. He was able to pay the banker now of his past debt. Jay also decided to pay back the customers that he had ripped off. He went to everyone’s house and gave them a check for either $1000, $1500, or $2000.
The moral of the movie is that if you are obedient to God and do things right and honestly, He will bless and prosper you. There is a good story here to be learned.
