Child stars Kim and Kyle Richards spent their youth in front of television and movie cameras. Now as 40-something year old women they’re back on TV again, this time in the Bravo reality series, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Both Kim and Kyle Richards have 4 children and took a break from their successful careers to become full time moms. But the sisters’ similarities end there.
And after amazing careers as child stars- especially Kim, who was the Disney girl of the 1970’s, starring in movies like Escape to Witch Mountain and nearly every popular TV series of the time (Love Boat, Police Woman, Diff’rent Strokes, CHiPs), it’s somewhat of a downer that that these child stars (Kyle’s big role was in the original Halloween movie and she had an ongoing gig on Little House on the Prairie) are now being touted as… Paris Hilton’s aunts.
But family ties aside, the real story on Kim and Kyle Richards’ latest television stint on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is how different they are.
Kim Richards explains that she’s a single mom to 4 kids (three children from 2 marriages, one child, Kimberly, from a long term relationship) and that her kids are her entire life. While house hunting, the 46 year old drops the bomb that she needs 5 bedrooms to house her 4 grown kids, and besides, she might want to have another baby someday. Younger sister Kyle tells her she’s “lost it” and then throws in the dig, “Don’t ya need a husband first?”
Kyle has the husband- she’s married to real estate guru Mauricio Umansky . And she seems to relish in talking about her needy sister.
Kyle Richards makes no bones about telling the Real Housewives audience that she keeps an eye on her big sis- who she says has “no great girlfriends”- and that she even had to promise their dying mother that she would look out for Kim. Then she dishes on how her big sis has a spending problem, blowing a stack of her Disney money on a Porsche the day she turned 18.
And in the previews for upcoming episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, it looks like the Richards sisters really go at it in a limo, when Kyle lunges towards her sister.
So now that filming of the series is over, have the sisters patched things up?
According to People, things are still awkward and strained between the two sisters, although Kyle Richards says they are “working things out”.
Kim Richards concedes, “Things are said and done that you can’t take back.”
Ain’t that the truth. Here’s hoping this Real Housewives stint doesn’t turn into a real life family feud.
