Cheyenne, Wyoming: Former Dancing with the Stars contestant Michael Bolton opened the 2010-11 Season for the Cheyenne Civic Center. A sell-out crowd was on hand to see the performer, who was recently eliminated from the ABC hit program, sing many of his hit songs, some going back more than 20 years. Michael Bolton also performed covers of famous songs from icons like Frank Sinatra. Disclosure: I’ve been an usher for the Cheyenne Civic Center since the 2004-05 season. But what I write are my own observations.
Michael Bolton commented on his Dancing with the Stars Appearance while at the Cheyenne Civic Center
Fans of all ages came out on a cold and windy autumn night to see the pop star perform for a little over 90 minutes (no intermission) with his band and back up singers (sometimes as many as seven appeared with him on stage). Bolton introduced many of the 16 songs he sang (two instrumentals were performed without him). A number of his hits resulted with the Cheyenne Civic Center audience clapping, including his opening number Soul Provider plus Time, Love, and Tenderness. The former Dancing with the Stars contestant went into the audience for part of his rendition of When a Man Loves a Woman, and people were allowed to come up to the front of the stage as Michael Bolton completed that hit.
The accomplished singer commented on his stint with Dancing with the Stars, which ended recently. Bolton said he enjoyed working with everyone on the show except one person, who wasn’t named. The star was dressed casually in a black fitted t-shirt and blue jeans, though he did wear a suit jacket part of the time while on stage.
Performing live, Bolton sounds very much like his studio cuts do. He showed that he can croon out more than contemporary pop hits, especially when he sang with real depth and emotion some tunes from his Bolton Swings Sinatra album like Fly Me to the Moon, That’s Life, and Theme from New York, New York. Bolton ended the concert at the Cheyenne Civic Center with an encore rendition of Georgia on My Mind, receiving a standing ovation afterwards. The only song Michael Bolton performed from his latest studio album (One World One Love) was the fast-paced Hope It’s Too Late.
