Last night, I went back in time and oh, what a night! My sister and I drove to Danville, Kentucky to Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts. And who was appearing there, you ask? None other, than the legendary Frankie Valli, and let me tell y’all…..he’s still got it!
Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons first gained fame in 1962 with hits like “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Sherry” “Walk Like a Man” and “Rag Doll”. We heard him sing all of these songs last night except for “Rag Doll”. I don’t know why he didn’t sing that one, but believe me when I tell you that unique falsetto voice of his sounds just like it did “back in ’63, oh, what a night!”
Frankie is 78 years old and doesn’t move quite so fast anymore, plus the fact they had a minor accident on the way to Danville and he had to sit on a stool part of the night with a hurt leg. But he can still shake his bootie, and the rest of his group who are total hunks, probably in their late twenties or early thirties, can do all the choreography of the original Seasons. Perfectly in step with every move in nice looking suits to ripping them off to t-shirts to show off their muscles in the “Grease Is The Word” routine.
We swooned to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and when he sang “My Eyes Adored You”, well, my eyes were adoring him. I love a concert where you know all the words of every song and you can sing along, much to the chagrin of your neighboring partrons. (Don’t worry, I had an aisle seat.)
“Swear To God” I just can’t say enough good things about last night’s concert except if you ever have the chance to see them perform, GO, it is well worth the money. You won’t be disappointed! Oh, and by the way, all the way home, we listened to the their CD and got to hear “Rag Doll”, too!
Oh, What a Night!! Later, friends.
