While no one can tell what means what the new free ferry services from the pier in Fulton Ferry likely had a lot to do with Governors Island’s record breaking totals this year. Governors Island beat their 2009 numbers by a whopping 61% according to the NY Post (1). Governors Island attracted some 443,000 visitors this season.
Governors Island also did the deed of “hosting more concerts and cultural programs this season, which ran June” through the first weekend in October. However what’s different is the access which locals and by extension their tourist visitor friends and family have through the free ferry services offered from Fulton Ferry.
City officials have put Governors Island season on par with peak days at “the High Line on the West Side and the Statue of Liberty.”
This is huge for tourists, huge for Governor’s Island and huge for Fulton Ferry. The next season will open in June 2011.Will you be there?
