With the boom in casual gaming, there’s been a surge of new games for every demographic, even games you can play with your kids. However, there are few games that actually focus on playing with a spouse or significant other.
Gaming can bring couples closer together as it encourages cooperative play, communication, sharing, and most of all, taking the time to spend with each other just to have fun. While there may not currently be any casual games geared for lovers, the following eight games are great to play with your significant other!
Available on Facebook, Family Feud is based off the game show by the same name, and pits a single player through the same rounds as a real TV show (without another family trying to steal the points!). If a player makes it to fast money, they not only answer their own questions, they can also ask a friend for help. Invite each other to answer your fast money questions for extra bonuses! For a little extra fun, help each other during the regular rounds too.
Bush Whacker is a fun, mischievous game that fans of role-playing games like Zelda will truly enjoy. The game tasks players in finding rare monsters and collecting items, as well as doing quests to help out the local town, and even fishing. This game is great for couples because they can not only send each other energy packs, but they can also help them unlock gates for special unlocked areas. Start at the same time, and you can even see who will get further faster!
This quirky, fun game started in France and has been taking the world by storm. In Transformice, players take the role of a mouse, with one random player taking the role of a shaman (gaining special powers). The mice and shaman must work together in each room to grab the cheese and bring it back to the mouse hole. Bring a couple together in the same room, and enjoy the fun and mayhem!
City of Wonder
City of Wonder is growing in popularity among Facebook gamers. Similar in concept to Sid Meier’s Civilization, players must build a city, research technologies, and interact with other civilizations. Play together and build embassies in each other’s cities, then visit each day to give your loved one bonuses and a better happiness bonus. Visit each other further via expeditions for even more bonuses (and rivalry).
Treasure Madness is the original Facebook treasure hunting game (similar to Zynga’s Treasure Isle). Players uncover maps, and visit them, digging or searching in each square until the map and all its treasures have been uncovered. Every time a treasure is found, players are challenged with completing a mini-game to earn their treasure. Treasures are part of collections that can only be turned in once, and searching takes precious energy. Couples can send needed treasures to each other, as well as gift each other energy boosting food.
Hatchlings is an egg-hunt game, where players search baskets of their friends to find both common and rare, collectible eggs which can turn into pets that must be kept happy! The game also hosts competitions every few months, where players compete to see who can find the most total eggs in the few month period. There are thousands of eggs to collect, so couples can once again help each other by not only searching each other’s baskets, but also by sharing collectible eggs with each other and feeding each other’s hatched pets.
Zynga’s latest game, FrontierVille, combines many aspects from their other games into an interesting new simulation and strategy game. In FrontierVille, players build their own frontier town, including tending animals, harvesting crops, building new settlements, clearing the land, doing quests, and even having a spouse and child! Many couples choose to play together, mirroring each other’s towns and personalized looks, and regularly helping each other with bonuses, tending each other’s frontiers, and gifts.
If you are equestrian lovers at heart, this last little gem will appeal to you. Horse Isle(and Horse Isle 2) are flash games which let you find, raise, train, and compete horses, even own ranches, and complete quests. There are dozens of breeds on both versions of the game, in hundreds of colors, making this the ultimate equine lover’s game. Couples can help each other by trading and training each other’s horses, competing together, helping each other with quests, and just riding together and enjoying each other’s company.
