Depending on where you live, your kids have either already started back at school, or are about to head back. The chill in the air is a clear sign that we have reached the end of the summer months. Of course this does not mean that the fun stops their for homeschoolers. During the Fall season there is really so much you can do with the kids, even painting. One thing that kids love to do in any type of weather is painting. Below you will find some fun Fall painting ideas that you can do along with your children. Since you are using paint you may want to do this activity outside, and then you can just hang up all of the art work when you are done.
Acorn finger painting
For this painting project you can take a walk outside with your children to see how many acorns you can find. Hunt around for some whole acorns. Then set up an easel, or paint board for your kids, and get the finger paints out. They can dip the acorns into the finger paints, and then stamp the impression onto the paper. They can then use their fingers to add to the picture. When they are all done they can allow their creations to dry, and you can even frame them. You can find inexpensive picture frames at your local dollar store. Or if you prefer you can make them, yourself using old folders, or construction paper.
During the Fall season apples are in season, so you can usually get a nice amount of apples for an affordable price. For this painting activity you will not actually be using paint. Instead you will be using food coloring to decorate your animals. Start by placing food coloring in small bowls. You will need some brand new paint brushes for this project as well. Have the kids dip the brushes into the food coloring, and then paint faces onto the apple, or whatever type of design they want. The food coloring will be a little bit on the runny side but it will still be fun to watch your kids try to color the apples. If you want decorations that will stick you can always use caramel to paint your apples. Dip the paint brushes into caramel, and paint cute little faces on them. On top of the caramel faces, or designs they can place nuts. It is the same as making candy apples, except you will be making more of a painted design instead of just dipping them. Just be prepared for a huge mess.
Painted Leaf Bookmarks
For this project all you will need is a simple piece of construction paper, or a manila folder. Cut the
size book mark that you want out of the folder. You can then hang up the folder piece, and then have them paint or draw a leaf design on the book mark. When it is all dry they will be able to use their book mark anyway that they want.
