If you live on the Kenai Peninsula, you’re probably used to how small it is. However, just because the Kenai Peninsula is small, dosen’t mean it can’t be fun! There’s all sorts of things to do, even on Sunday! Here are some great ideas for some fun on the Kenai Peninsula on a Sunday!
If you’re looking for fun on a Sunday and it’s in the warmer months, the beach is a great location! Many people enjoy dip-netting for salmon (when it’s the right season) while others are more akin to bonfires complete with hot dogs and marshmallows. Young and old enjoy the beach and it’s sure to be a hit, any time of the day or week! To get to the beach, follow the Kenai Spur towards Nikiski and turn left on Spruce St. Follow the road all the way down the hill until you reach the parking area for the beach.
Redoubt/Soldotna Elementary’s Sledding Hills
In the winter months, it can be harder to find things to do! The snow tends to calm the activities around town and it might be a little difficult finding ways to entertain yourself or your family! Whether you have children or not, sledding can be a blast! Soldotna Elementary and Redoubt Elementary both have sledding hills open to the general public outside of school hours! The hill at Redbout Elementary is much larger than the hill at Soldotna Elementary though! So grab your family, call some friends, or just grab a sled and go! To get to Soldotna Elementary, head south on the Sterling Highway. Turn right on Binkley. Turn left on Park Ave and then park in the school’s parking lot. To get to Redoubt Elementary, head south on the Sterling Highway. Turn right on Binkley. Turn left on Redbout Ave. You’ll see the school on the right.
There are several bars around Soldotna if you’re just looking for a place to get out, have a drink and socialize! One of the more popular bars, Hooligans, has a decent crowd even on Sundays. Don’t expect the bars to be popping like they are on Friday or Saturday though!
China Sea buffet is open on Sundays and has a delicious selection of foods! Buffets are always fun and a great way to spend time with your family and friends while enjoying a delicious meal! To get to China Sea Buffet, head south on the Sterling Highway, passing Binkley. On the left, you’ll see the Blazy Mall. China Sea is upstairs.
