It can be very challenging to help children learn how to spell their name correctly. There are several things that you can do in order to help children learn how to spell their name. Simple fun games are really a great way to help kids remember the proper spelling of their name. Below are some simple ideas, and suggestions that may prove to be helpful.
Ziploc Match Game
The Ziplock match game is really an easy game, and clearly it uses some simple materials. The first thing that you will need is some simple medium sized Ziplock bags. Next you will want to print out all of the letters of your child’s name using your computer. Have your child help you cut out all of the individual letters that you have printed out. Next you will want to print out their name exactly how it is spelled, and tape it to the front of the Ziploc bag. Be sure to tape all of the sides on the Ziploc bag down. Now you are ready to start playing the game.
To play you will say the letters of your child’s name starting from the first to then end. After you say the letter help them find it in the pile of cut out letters. Then you can have them place the letters into the Ziploc bag one at a time. Be sure to give your child lots of praise as they are playing the game.
Name Finger painting
Finger painting is really a fun activity, and a great way to help your kids learn to write their name. Of course you will first need some basic finger painting supplies. Once you have all of your finer painting supplies you will need to prep an area. I have found outdoors to really be best when it comes to finger painting with the kids. Wherever your location you will want to lay out some newspaper to cover the painting area. Be sure that each of your kids has a smock, or some type of covering to protect their clothes from being damaged.
When you are ready to start painting, write your child’s name on a blank piece of paper. Then have your children paint on top of their name using the proper strokes. Just make sure that they start from the top, and work their way down. This will help your children not only learn to spell their name but the proper way to write their name as well.
A name toss game is really a lot of fun to create and a lot of fun to play. In order to get started you will need the following materials: soft toy balls, small plastic buckets, or cups , black marker, and a little bit of room for tossing. Start by labeling each bucket with a different letter from your child’s name. Once each bucket is labeled you will want to also label the balls using the marker. The game is easily played by having your child try, and toss the the ball into the matching bucket. This game can be played all day, as often as you want to help your child learn how to correctly spell their name.
