One of my favorite places in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is KLCC Park. A popular tourist destination as well as a busy hangout for locals, KLCC Park is at the base of the famous Petronas Towers and right next to Suria KLCC Mall. This massive public park is a wonderful place for single travelers, couples, families with kids, the elderly – just about anyone – as KLCC Park has so many fun and interesting things to do and see.
Watch the Lake Symphony – One of the attractions at KLCC Park is the Lake Symphony. As you enter the park through the rear doors of Suria KLCC Mall, you’ll see a large man-made park directly ahead of you. Here, at noon and early in the evening there’s a wonderful fountain display, with a sort of water ballet performed to music by the water fountains. Crowds will begin to gather a few minutes before noon and again right before it goes dark, so if you want to be able to sit right on the water’s edge, get there a few minutes ahead of the crowd.
Take The Kids To The Playground and Wading Pool – KLCC Park has an excellent free children’s playground as well as a shallow wading pool where you and the kids can cool off on a hot day. The playground is 2 acres in size and has slides, climbing frame, tunnels, chutes, all sorts of fun things to keep the kids occupied for hours. The designer also had large trees planted around the area, so it’s cool enough to be used even in the heat of the day.
See The Sculptures – There are many fascinating modern sculptures scattered throughout KLCC Park and even in the middle of small man-made pools and rivers. Fun to look at and beautiful on photographs.
Go Jogging – KLCC Park has a 1.3 kilometer jogging track that’s laid with a special material making running on it easier on your knees and other joints. You’ll see many people jogging around the track but particularly in the early morning hours and early evening when the temperature is cooler.
Bird Watch – The park is 50 acres in size and holds almost 2,000 varieties of trees and plants. That’s also why it’s a popular destination for local and migratory birds, and a wonderful place to birdwatch or take photos.
Visit Masjid As-syakirin Mosque – The Masjid As-syakirin Mosque is a gorgeous Islamic mosque located at the northern edge of KLCC Park and a must-see if you’re at the park. It’s large enough to fit between 6,000-10,000 people for prayer and is a stunning piece of architecture. Just remember, everyone of any religion is welcome, just don’t wear shorts or revealing clothing, take your shoes off before you go inside, and women must have their heads covered with a scarf or shawl.
Sit At A Lakeside Cafe And Drink Coffee – The KLCC Park area where the water fountains are is surrounded by open-air cafes. Here, you’ll find Starbucks, San Francisco Coffee, The Dome, and other cafes and restaurants, where you can sit over a cup of coffee, a piece of cake or even a full meal, and watch the world go by. It’s a beautiful place to sit and one of my favorite cafe areas in all of Kuala Lumpur.
