There are many fun activities at Halloween to keep the older children happy and content. But how do you include the little one such as the toddler so that they do not feel left out of the Halloween fun? There are many craft projects and ideas that can be used to keep them entertained and make them feel like they are contributing to the Halloween decorating and traditions.
These are all fun activities that you can share with your little one that do not take much time, money or effort on anyone’s part. The following are three of the most common fun activities for toddlers with pumpkins:
• Make a Paper Jack O Lantern – This is just a basic way to get your toddler involved and feeling like they are part of the fun. Cut out some paper shapes that are commonly used when decorating pumpkins. A few orange circles, some eyes and mouth pieces out of black paper and green stems are the basics for construction. Then its time for the toddler to work their magic. They can paste, using a non toxic glue stick, all of the pieces onto the orange circles to make their own Jack O Lantern.
• Decorating Pumpkins with Paint – It is never safe to allow a toddler to use a knife to help carve a pumpkin. Instead of them being left out, get some baby pumpkins from the grocery store and allow them to paint faces on them. This is one project that even the older kids can enjoy and can help the little one to complete. Make sure that you give the children non toxic water based paints so that the clean up is easy to do and so that even if the toddler gets some in their mouth, it does not hurt them.
• Helping to Carve a Pumpkin – You are not going to allow your toddler to carve a pumpkin by any means, but they can help in other ways. Let them choose from the carving templates a design for their own pumpkin. They can help to remove seeds from inside it as well. This makes them feel like they are part of the process without them getting hurt.
Just because there is a toddler in the home does not mean that there is no pumpkin related projects that they can take place in. There are many ways to include them in the Halloween decorating when a little imagination is used.
